Industry Applications
Clear Plastic Films
When superior clarity and durability are key, our clear polymer films will fit the bill. These products are used to produce sneeze guards, disposable face shields, and other sanitary barriers. The films are easy to produce, durable, and come in a variety of thicknesses. We stock and convert many clear plastic films, including:
- Polyester (PET) – With good chemical and moisture resistance, clear polyester films are suitable for uses such as packaging, barrier protection, and food-grade applications.
- Polycarbonate (PC) – Highly resistant to impacts and abrasions, clear polycarbonate films are ideal for applications requiring excellent clarity and durability, dimensional stability, and strength.
- Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol (PETG) – As the most cost-effective option, clear PETG films are particularly easy to fabricate and shape, making them ideal for packaging and display applications.
Abrasion/Impact Resistant Tapes & Films
For applications requiring robust resistance to abrasions and impacts, our solutions include products made from:
- Acetal Polyoxymethylene (POM) Tape – Our Celcon® acetal POM tape and film products are tough, dimensionally stable, and resist fatigue and creep. They also have excellent moisture and chemical resistance, including to gasoline and oxygenated fuels. Celcon® acetal POM tapes are laminated with a pressure-sensitive adhesive by 3M.
- Acetal POM Film – Our Celcon® acetal films are widely used in compression, rotation, blow, and injection molding as well as extrusion. They are also ideal for two-component soft-hard molding with SEBS and other thermoplastic elastomers.
Chemical Resistant Tapes & Films
CS Hyde converts a variety of tapes designed to resist chemicals. These tapes include PTFE or Teflon®, a chemically inert material that does not promote combustion. Its low coefficient of friction, non-stick, anti-static, and temperature resistance properties make it ideal for harsh environments.
Our chemically resistant tapes can either be coated with PTFE or made from tensilized or skived PTFE film. Skived Teflon® tape is made of thinly sliced PTFE, while tensilized Teflon® is produced by stretching PTFE materials to create a tape with high tensile strength and density.
We also produce chemically resistant films such as our acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) film, which we produce from Cycolac® resin. This translucent film has a tensile strength of 5700 psi, a continuous operating temperature range of 40 °F to 140 °F, and a R100 Rockwell hardness rating. Our ABS film resists impacts and chemicals and is often used in household products, medical devices, automobiles, and office equipment.
Dielectric Strength Films
Ethylene-chlorotrifluoroethylene (ECTFE), commonly known as Halar®, offers excellent dielectric strength. This durable, high-purity film performs well in challenging temperature extremes and resists chemical exposure. Our Halar® films meet UL-94 V-0 standards for vertical flame testing and are suitable for many electrical applications such as hi-temp electrical tape, cable wrapping, release films, medical components, and solar collector panels. We offer stock and custom sized Halar® sheets.
Flame Resistant Polymer Films
Our films produced with the engineered, high-performance thermoplastic PEEK™ are designed to offer superior strength and durability under extreme temperature conditions. Here are the specifications of this flame-resistant polymer film:
- Flexural strength: 23.6 kpsi (163 MPa)
- Tensile strength: 18.9 kpsi (130 MPa)
- Rockwell hardness: 99 (R Scale)
- Continuous operating temperatures from -70 °F to 500 °F
- UL RTI rated up to 464 °F
- Melting point: 644 °F
- Heat deflection temperature: 306 °F at 1.8 MPa
These qualities make our stock and custom-sized PEEK™ films and tapes suitable for the challenges of aerospace, fire, medical, pharmaceutical, military, and other industries, meeting their standards for safety, performance, and toxicity.
FDA Approved Substrates
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations set requirements for films, tapes, sheets, and other polymer and rubber products approved to meet hygiene and safety standards. Many of our products meet these performance requirements, including some formulations of our:
- UHMW Polyethylene, Teflon®/PTFE, fiberglass, and PEEK™ adhesive tapes
- ABS, PEEK™, Teflon®/PTFE, and Tefzel®/ETFE polymer films
- PTFE-coated fabrics
- Silicone rubber sheeting
Applications of FDA-approved substrates include insulation, conveyor belts, surface protection, guide rails, and storage bins.
Medical Grade Products
Products approved for medical use must meet rigorous safety and performance standards. Our premium, medical-grade silicone sheet rubber meets USP Class VI requirements and features:
- Low VOCs
- No peroxide
- Platinum curing
- No discoloration over time
Low Friction Heat Sealer Tapes
The non-stick surface of fluoropolymer materials, including PTFE, makes them an ideal choice for packaging solutions. We offer PTFE applied as a coating for PTFE and other tape substrates, such as fiberglass. These tapes are suitable for such uses as heat sealing release tapes, blister-pack thermoforming, and form-fill-seal packaging operations. Stock tape inventory typically ships in 1-2 business days, with slightly longer times for custom-slit rolls or sheets.
Clear-Transparent: Plastic Products
Our transparent plastic rolls, sheets, and custom die-cut products include Tefzel® (ETFE), PETG, polycarbonate, polyester, and DuPont™ PFA and FEP. These films are non-stick, high-temperature resistant, chemical-resistant, and abrasion-resistant. Our stock of optically clear products are generally ready for same-day shipping.
3D Printing Materials
Ultem® is a high-performance polyetherimide (PEI) that makes an ideal surface for 3D printing beds. It offers extreme smoothness and performs well in high temperatures, supporting a variety of printing filaments, such as ABS and PLA.
Ultem® is also ideal for critical applications where its superior strength, impact resistance, heat and UV tolerance, and chemical resistance offer advantages in 3D printed parts for these industries:
- Aerospace
- Automotive
- Medical
- Industrial
